After you take possession of your residence at 9:00, Koutoubia, the biggest and most stunning mosque in the Western Muslim world, marks the beginning of your exploration of one of Morocco’s oldest imperial capitals. With a side measurement of 12.80 meters and a height of 69 meters, it is well proportioned and reminds one of the Giralda in Seville.
Then you’ll travel to the Kasbah to see the well-known Saadian tombs, which were created in 1120 by the Saadian Sultan Ahmad al-Mansour. Admire this distinctive Islamic mausoleum’s vibrant tiles, Arabic writing, and fine carvings.
Spend the next hour seeing the Bahia Palace (Palace of Wonderful), one of the key historical landmarks of the country. El Mekki Moussa, a Moroccan architect and Sultan Hassan I’s chamberlain, designed the 8-hectare palace for his beloved Bahia (Bahia is Arabic for “wonderful”) in 1866. With magnificent stucco works, Islamic mosaics, and carved cedar wood roofs, this architectural jewel—intended to be the best example of Islamic world architecture—reflects nearly all the secrets of Hispano-Moorish art. It is surrounded by Moorish gardens with orange and cypress trees and fragrant jasmine plants.
After this one-of-a-kind experience, explore the Medina’s maze-like alleyways to learn more about Marrakchi culture by visiting various souks, scented grocery stores, tea houses, craft studios, etc. Fruit juice vendors, snake charmers, dancing monkeys, magicians, acrobats, and many more performers congregate in Jemaa El Fna Square to put on a spectacular performance that captures the unique Moroccan way of life.
